Refund Policy

Last updated: 6 October 2026

This policy explains how refunds work for Modernist.Recipes memberships and AI credit packs. It sits alongside your rights under the Australian Consumer Law and, if you’re an EU or UK consumer, your statutory cooling-off rights.

In short

  • Cancel a membership anytime; you keep access until the end of the period you’ve paid for.
  • When you drop to a lower tier, that tier’s limits on recipes and images apply, so content saved beyond the free allowance becomes hidden until you upgrade again.
  • We don’t generally refund the current period once it has started, except where the law requires it or we agree as a goodwill gesture.
  • AI credit packs are non-refundable; unused credits stay dormant if your membership lapses and become available again if you resubscribe.
  • Refunds are processed by Paddle, our merchant of record.

Memberships

Memberships are billed in advance, monthly or yearly. When you cancel, future billing stops and your paid access continues until the end of the current paid period. After that your account reverts to the free Member tier (see the terms of service).

Because access continues for the period you’ve paid for, we don’t provide partial refunds for the unused part of a period once it has begun, unless the law requires it or we choose to make an exception.

What happens when you downgrade

Switching to a cheaper paid tier takes effect straight away. Paddle works out the unused time on your current tier, down to the minute, and adds it to your account as credit. That credit is applied automatically to your future invoices; it isn’t paid back to your card as a refund.

Dropping all the way to the free tier is different: you keep your paid tier until the end of the period you’ve already paid for, then your account reverts to free. As noted above, we don’t refund the unused part of that period.

Statutory rights

Nothing in this policy attempts to limit the rights you can’t waive. If you’re an EU or UK consumer, you may have a cooling-off period after purchase; note that where you ask us to begin providing a digital service immediately, that right can be reduced once the service has been supplied. In Australia, the Australian Consumer Law guarantees still apply, and you may be entitled to a remedy if the Service isn’t as described or has a fault we can’t fix within a reasonable time.

AI credit packs

Credit packs are one-time purchases and are non-refundable. Credits are added to your account immediately on purchase, so once a pack is bought we don’t refund it, whether or not you’ve spent the credits.

Credits are usable only while you have an active membership. If your membership lapses, unused credits aren’t lost: they stay dormant and become available again if you resubscribe. Credits are personal to your account and can’t be transferred.

If a technical fault on our side wastes credits, contact us and we’ll make it right, normally by restoring the credits.

How refunds are processed

All payments run through Paddle, so Paddle issues approved refunds to your original payment method. Refunds can take a few business days to appear, depending on your bank or card provider. For payment or receipt queries, you can also contact Paddle directly.
